How did a Filipino jeepney end up plying the streets of Funafuti Atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, a long way from home? This was the question I asked when I came across it, parked in the back streets. After all, there’s not that much length of road on Funafuti for this jeepney to go for a spin.
I think I’ve found the answer as to who brought it here, but not the how or why. Back in 2005, the Manila Times newspaper reported that it was imported by an expat Filipino .
